In 2020, Idaho saw the largest population growth in the nation, according to new statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Idaho saw its population grow 2.1% year-over-year, beating Nevada and Arizona, which also saw significant population gains. The findings also revealed the mass exodus in states like California, Illinois, and New York, which all saw net decreases in their populations as people fled to other states.
If you’re looking to buy a house in Idaho this year, patience and persistence are going to be needed as you search. Inventory here in the Treasure Valley is at historic lows. With demand significantly outpacing supply, coupled with record-low mortgage interest rates, it’s not uncommon to see homes sell for thousands more than asking.
While supply is tight, there is optimism that more homes will come on the market as the pandemic subsides, helping to slow rising home prices. It’s anyone’s guess, though, as to when that might happen.
